Course Description:
This course will provide in-depth instruction of various drawing techniques, including gesture, contour, sketching, and rendering.  Sighting and the use of perspective will also be taught.  Media will include pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, watercolor pencil, scratchboard, brush and ink and pastel.

Expectations:
-Follow the rules of DBCS.
-Participate in class activities and discussion.
-Be respectful of others and their artwork.
-Be respectful of all art supplies and equipment.
-Clean up after yourself.
-Assignments should be turned in on time. 10 points will be deducted for each day an assignment is late.  Assignments will be accepted up to 2 days late.  After 2 days late, the student will receive a zero.
-Be open to new ideas and experiences

Art II
Homework 2008-2009

All homework will always be due on Wednesdays each week. Homework that is turned in 1 day late will have a -10 point deduction; 2 days late will have a 20 point deduction.  If an assignment is turned in more than 2 days late, it will result in a zero.

9-10     HW#4             Heavy Metal
-This is a collage that has some metallic quality to the composition. Use tin foil, and old shiny candy wrapper, nuts, screws or bolts from the garage. Make your composition on a piece of cardboard no larger than 8 ½ X 11. This collage must have integrity and quality. Make sure that everything adheres well to the cardboard. Your design may be abstract or have a pictorial design. Please come see me if you need more clarification on this assignment.

9-17     HW#5            Simple machines
-This drawing should be done of a machine. You need to use your view finder and focus your drawing on an up close perspective of a particular area of your machine. Make one of the edges run off the page in this drawing and don’t forget to show values in this drawing.

9-24     HW#6             Black Pen and Ink
-For this assignment you may use your simple machine and transfer the drawing in your sketch book to another page. Then, using an ink pen, trace the various shapes and fill in each shape or space with a different texture. Please come see me if you need more clarification on this assignment.

10-1     HW#7             Observation of leaves and leaf patterns
10-8     HW#8             A texture rubbing picture
-This is a drawing that incorporates one or more pencil rubbings into the composition. Your subject can be anything around your house.

10-22   HW#9             Animal observation
-Start with a little research using books, photos, magazines or even live animals and do a "compare and contrast" study of mouths or feet. Make a study of the mouths or feet of 2-4 various animals. For example- duck feet and alligator feet.

10-29   HW#10                       Photo Hunt                
-
Photograph as many different trees as possible. Take a variety of views and several different angles as well. You will have 2 weeks to complete this assignment. You should shoot a minimum of two rolls of film. Choose your final, top 3 and tape them in your sketch book. Write a brief explanation of why you chose the pictures you did.

-Research icons and draw several thumbnail sketches for your icon project.

11-19   HW #13                      Corn
-Use pencil or colored pencil and draw an ear of corn. Please draw from a piece of dried corn or fresh corn.Remember value, shape, emphasis, while you are working on this sketch.

-This assignment focuses on perspective. Find an interesting door or doorway and use perspective drawing techniques which we will review in class.
