Academics

David Brainerd Christian School offers a college preparatory track and an advanced curriculum to challenge even our most talented students. The advanced track in the high school will offer a variety of Honors and Advanced Placement classes, which will provide college credit. Currently, there are a number of students who we expect will take advantages of these classes. While we realize advanced classes may have a smaller enrollment than core curriculum classes, we are committed to hiring part time teachers to meet the needs of these exceptional students. Our academic philosophy is based on a classical approach to education. This means middle school builds on the foundational framework of elementary school by teaching students to take those facts and learn how to use them correctly. High school years are for rhetoric: taking facts and logic and learning to write, speak and evaluated what they are learning with a more critical thinking process. All elements of the curriculum will also integrate a Christian worldview. Our curriculum is influenced by the Classical Christian ideology. All students will take a Latin-based vocabulary in sixth grade, and introduction to Latin in seventh grade and then a choice of several languages (Latin, Spanish and French) in eighth grade for high school credit. Seventh through ninth grade students will take a logic class to prepare them for the rhetoric stage of writing and speaking in high school. History and English classes will be integrated in the course of study. The school will have more than one track in math, science, English and history, so students who are ready can move at a faster pace. A range of Bible courses will also be offered at each grade. A curriculum consultant has been hired to develop the remainder of the curriculum for the high school.
