History

In 1999, a study done by the nationally-respected firm Independent School Counsels confirmed the need for a new middle and high school in the Chattanooga area. Based on the results of the study, a number of families approached Brainerd Baptist School about the compelling need to provide programs to meet the needs of older students. As a direct result, Brainerd Baptist began offering sixth and seventh grade classes in portable buildings on their elementary school campus in the fall of 2000. As of September 2002, Brainerd Baptist decided to offer only those grades accommodated by their campus, K3-5th grade. To provide continuity for the Brainerd Baptist students, and to meet the continued community need for a Christian middle and high school, Brainerd Baptist provided the base to start a new middle and high school: David Brainerd Christian School. The name David Brainerd Christian School honors a man of God who has been heralded as the pioneer of modern missionary work. David Brainerd began his ministry with the Indians in New York in 1743. He rejected a life working with those who already claimed Jesus as their savior to seek out those who had never heard of Jesus Christ. Though Brainerd died at the young age of 29, his life's work transformed the lives of many. He has been credited with inspiring more people into Christian service than any other man who ever lived. One of Brainerd's great legacies was his establishment of schools to extend his ministry. David Brainerd Christian School honors the legacy of David Brainerd by using his model of education that impacts lives for eternity. David Brainerd Christian School is a middle and high school located in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Beginning its fourth year of operation, DBCS offers a quality education at an affordable price. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, DBCS is quickly filling the niche as a college-preparatory, Christian school in the Chattanooga area. DBCS is independent and non-denominational yet approaches all facets of its curriculum from a Christian world view. It is the goal of David Brainerd Christian School to minimize the impact of the world on our students and maximize their impact on the world.
